The Astro Grabber was designed by Bill Bowerman, co-founder of Nike, in the 1970s, and was one of the first sports models to feature the iconic waffle sole. It was first sold as a baseball and softball shoe in 1977, and from 1979 it became Nike’s model for playing American football on AstroTurf. It then disappeared into the archives for decades, until the collaboration with Bode brought it back to light in 2024 and Nike returned it to the catalog in 2025.
The silhouette is low, slim, and surprisingly formal: without excessive padding, with a well-proportioned Swoosh and a clean toe box. This Leather SE version replaces the original’s mesh with premium leather, bringing it even closer to a dress shoe.
