The Air Max 1 arrived in 1987 as the first sneaker with a visible Air unit, an idea Tinker Hatfield took from Paris’s Centre Pompidou, a building that exposes its pipes and stairways on the outside. Cutting away the midsole to reveal the Air unit raised concerns within Nike because of fears it might look fragile, but the model launched and founded an entire family. This colorway works exclusively with neutrals: Off Noir, white, and Vast Grey.

The Air Max 1 — Low Profile and Elongated Swoosh

Low mudguard, long stitched Swoosh, and a visible Air window in the heel. Off Noir, a softened black, defines the Swoosh and overlays; Vast Grey fills the mid panels, while white appears on the base and midsole. Three shades of gray add depth without color.
