The F50 Tunit system launched in 2006 as adidas’s most ambitious project in modular football boots: interchangeable studs, fit and upper to adapt to the playing surface and each player’s preferences. Lionel Messi debuted it at the 2006 World Cup, although the system was discontinued that same year due to its complexity and cost. That year, adidas also launched four “beast”-themed boots (dragon, eagle, tiger and wolf) with designer Yohji Yamamoto under the Y-3 label, inspired by the work of artist Taishi Hayashi and produced in limited runs of 1,000 pairs per model.
The original modular construction allows different components to be combined according to the playing surface. In the Beast Pack Eagle, the AdiHex synthetic leather upper features eagle graphics that pay tribute to the original 2006 design.
