In the 70s, when "ping pong diplomacy" helped normalize relations between the U.S. and China during the Cold War, adidas created the Tischtennis (table tennis in German): a table tennis shoe based on the DNA of the Stan Smith but with lightweight mesh instead of leather. Discontinued for decades, it briefly returned in 2020 and came back definitively in February 2024 with the most classic colorway: white and green with a gum sole.

The Tischtennis — The ping pong shoe of the Cold War

Upper in lightweight, breathable white mesh with gray suede overlays on the toe and heel. Three Stripes in green trim — three ribbon stripes, different from the leather on the Stan Smith. Trefoil logo on the heel. White canvas panel near the eyelets for more breathability. Arched gum sole with omnidirectional grip. Exclusive for women.
