Kip Buck, the brand’s footwear designer and an ultradistance runner, designed the model after studying how barefoot Kenyan distance runners—then dominant in international events—ran. The name comes from Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, and the split toe recreates the idea of its geological fault.
The split toe allows articulation between the first and second toes, while the Velcro strap secures the instep without the need for laces.
