The original 1906 was released in October 2009. In 2022, New Balance relaunched it as the 1906R—the R stands for “Remastered”—combining the original upper design with a more modern sole borrowed from the 860v2. Its aesthetic draws directly from performance runners of the early 2000s: metallic mesh, synthetic cages, visible heel counters, and a technical, futuristic feel. This version adds Primaloft insulation, the synthetic fiber that retains heat even when wet.
The profile is technical and structured, with the cage running across the midfoot and the lateral N integrated into the paneling. This colorway features Dark Olivine, a dark olive green, across most of the upper, with Silver Metallic panels and details that add the silhouette’s characteristic shine.
