Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Max 90 based on the 1987 Air Max and the 1989 Air Max Light, and after visiting the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, he decided to do what that building does: reveal on the outside what is normally hidden. He enlarged the Air window and sharpened the profile, drawing inspiration from Italian sports cars. For ten years, it was called the Air Max III. This Sail Croc Print version replaces the usual color play with a play on textures.
The upper remains the same overlapping panel mosaic from 1990, with variable-width eyelets at the forefoot and flex grooves in the outsole. Here, the Sail base, a warm bone tone, is combined with embossed croc-print panels and Phantom and black details that darken the Swoosh and heel area. The Air unit remains visible, as it should be.
