Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Max 90 based on the 1987 Air Max and the 1989 Air Max Light. The idea of showcasing technology instead of hiding it came to him after visiting the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, a building constructed inside out. He enlarged the Air window, sharpened the profile inspired by Italian sports cars, and added flex grooves and variable-width eyelets. Until 2000, it was known as the Air Max III.
The model’s defining mosaic of layered panels is presented here in Pink Foam, a very soft, powdery pink, with white accents that brighten the overall look. It is a tonal interpretation: instead of the bold contrast of classic colorways, all the interest lies in the stitching, changes in material, and the visible Air window at the heel.
