The story of the Tailwind 79 begins with Marion Franklin Rudy, an aerospace engineer who had worked for NASA and, after being rejected by 23 footwear manufacturers, managed to get Phil Knight to personally test his idea of cushioning with air chambers. Convinced after trying the prototype, Knight decided to invest in a technology that had not yet been validated. After a year of testing, the model was released in limited quantities at the 1978 Honolulu Marathon, selling out quickly, and reached the global market in 1979, the year that gives the silhouette its name. This Black White colorway presents the Tailwind in its most iconic and timeless combination.
Tailwind 79 — The First Nike Air Shoe in History
It is often mistakenly believed that the Air Max 1 pioneered Air technology, but that honor actually belongs to the Tailwind: it was the first shoe to incorporate Nike Air, although it was hidden in the midsole, with no visible window. In 1979, Rudy successfully patented this air-cushioning technology. In this Black White colorway, black covers much of the upper and overlays, while white appears on the midsole and contrast details, highlighting the classic running profile of the late 1970s.

We’ll provide the return label via WhatsApp (SEUR or UPS in mainland Spain; UPS for all other destinations). Its cost is the standard rate for your area, for example €6.95 in mainland Spain. The item must be unused and have the Next Step Verified tag intact.
