The Shox project began in 1984 with Bruce Kilgore, the designer who had just created the Air Force 1, pursuing a specific idea: a shoe that would behave like a trampoline. The first prototypes used metal springs and proved too unstable for the human foot. Only after sixteen years of research, and thanks to high-density polyurethane foam, could Nike launch the technology, which reached the market in 2000. The team drew inspiration from spacesuits and space shuttle boosters.
Unlike the Shox TL, which distributes the columns along the entire sole, the NZ concentrates them in the heel, where impact occurs. It is the more restrained interpretation of the technology and also the one that has aged best on the streets. This colorway uses Grey Fog as a neutral base, with black defining the silhouette and Stadium Green adding an accent to the details.
