The Cortez arrived in 1972, designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman and introduced as a running shoe ahead of the Munich Olympics. It was the brand’s first model to feature a full-length midsole with a layer of spongy rubber beneath the upper: for Bowerman, cushioning was the central concern, and that decision marked a turning point in sports footwear. Fifty years later, it remains one of the world’s most recognizable silhouettes.
The Textile version replaces leather with nylon, making the shoe lighter and giving it a look closer to that of 1970s running shoes. The overall shape remains the same: a low, elongated profile, a Swoosh running across the entire side, and a reinforced heel. Here, Pink Foam—a soft, milky pink—covers the body, while Light Crimson appears on the Swoosh and details, raising the tone by a notch.
