The Astro Grabber was released in 1974 and was worn throughout the ’70s and ’80s on artificial grass, during the height of AstroTurf. Its design is attributed to Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, who responded to these new surfaces with a waffle sole for grip and durability. The model was then buried in the archives for half a century, until Emily Bode Aujla chose it in 2024 for her first collaboration with Nike. The general release followed.
