The original Spiridon appeared in 1997, at a time when Nike Running was experimenting with visible external structures. Its unmistakable feature is the cage: a grid that wraps around the upper and supports it from the outside instead of reinforcing it from within. The Cage 2 takes that idea to the extreme and combines it with visible Zoom Air in a silhouette that has become a classic of technical running from the nineties.
The construction layers a base mesh with an external cage that runs from the toe box to the heel, passing through the eyelets. Underneath, the midsole reveals the Zoom Air unit. In this all-white finish, the focus shifts from color to texture: the cage’s relief, the stitching, and the contrast between mesh and plastic are all clearly visible.
