Launched in 1998, the Air Max Plus was created by Sean McDowell, who had just joined Nike when he was tasked with designing an exclusive model for Foot Locker. He was inspired by sketches he had drawn during a vacation in Florida: a gradient blue sky interrupted by the black silhouettes of palm trees at sunset. That image became the starting point for the entire silhouette. This Psychic Blue White colorway precisely recaptures those blue tones that inspired the design, on a white base that adds brightness.
The TPU structure or "Cage" that wraps the upper is inspired by the wavy shape of palm trees in the wind, combining visual impact with structural support. The protector that separates the front and rear Air units takes its shape from a whale’s tail. In this Psychic Blue White version, the psychic blue gradient unfolds over the Cage and overlays, while white dominates the upper base, faithfully recreating the sky and palm tree contrast from the original sketch.
