The Air Max 95 was designed in 1994 by Sergio Lozano, then at Nike ACG, after being commissioned to create a shoe for larger-built runners who needed more support. The idea was born on a rainy day in Beaverton, Oregon, while Lozano watched water erode the ground beside a lake, inspiring a design based on human anatomy: laces as ribs, the sole as a backbone, and layers of mesh and suede as muscle fibers. The Recycled Canvas edition preserves that legacy while opting for recycled canvas materials, making it one of Nike’s more sustainable lines.
The design retains the distinctive features of the original model: rib-like laces, a backbone-shaped sole, and an upper built from overlapping layers of mesh and suede. In this version, many of those layers are replaced with natural-toned recycled canvas, adding a more organic texture and a lower environmental impact message without sacrificing the classic silhouette.
