The Air Max 1 was born in 1987, designed by Tinker Hatfield, who revolutionized athletic footwear by showing the Air unit through a visible window in the sole for the first time. During the first few months of production, that window was noticeably larger than usual—a design now known as "Big Bubble" that Nike had to reduce after discovering that it cracked in cold weather. Decades later, Nike scanned an original pair to faithfully replicate that larger Air unit in the modern reissue. This Golf version brings that legacy to the green with the Purple Punch colorway.
The silhouette retains the iconic shape of the original Air Max 1 with its large Air window, now adapted for golf with a spikeless sole ready for the course. In this Purple Punch colorway, the white base is combined with purple accents that stand out against the visible Air unit in the heel.
