The original 2002 was released in 2010 from the Made in USA line with a clear idea: to create a luxury running shoe, more an object of desire than a sports tool. At the end of 2020, New Balance Japan —led by Tetsuya Shono— revived it as the 2002R, replacing the midsole with that of the 860v2 and adding ABZORB and N-ergy.
