The 1906 is part of New Balance's heritage running line, reviving cushioning technologies such as ABZORB in a vintage performance silhouette. For this project, The Whitaker Group — a creative studio focused on supporting artists and entrepreneurs as they build spaces to develop their craft — joined forces with New Balance under the name "Willful Bias". The collaboration is not just aesthetic: it stems from a shared mission to give visibility to creative talent. The Shadow Grey colorway translates that philosophy into a tonal grey shade, understated yet featuring details that reveal careful attention in every stitch.
The 1906U silhouette combines suede and leather in a tonal construction, with a mesh base layer replacing the model's usual synthetics. Yellow accents appear on the midsole, heel pull tab, and edge of the New Balance logo, while hand-painted crimson red touches appear on the rear section. The tongue features the square "WB" logo, and the inner label displays the text "Willful Bias", with screen-printed insoles featuring exclusive graphics from the project.
