Bulgarian-British designer Kiko Kostadinov, a Central Saint Martins graduate, has been collaborating with ASICS for years as part of the experimental Novalis line, with contributions from Laura and Deanna Fanning, who lead its women’s line. The Gel-Flammae was born from this collaboration as a completely new silhouette within the ASICS catalog, presented in two colorways: Gunmetal gray and this vibrant Mako Blue.
The design draws on archival models such as the Gel-Wahine II and Gel-Netburner IGS II, reinterpreting classic ASICS elements such as elongated running stripes and the lacing system, along with an extended toe box and a floral traction pattern on the outsole. In Mako Blue, this experimental foundation is dressed in an intense blue that highlights the shoe’s architectural lines and two-tone laces, resulting in an avant-garde design with clearly athletic roots.
