The Air Jordan 4 arrived in February 1989 as Tinker Hatfield’s second design for the line, and it was the model Michael Jordan wore in that year’s playoffs when he scored The Shot against the Cavaliers. It introduced two elements that make it unmistakable: perforated plastic side wings for threading the laces and mesh panels across the midfoot. The Lakers colorway uses the purple and gold palette of the Los Angeles team.
