Y-3 was born in 2002 when Yohji Yamamoto, after being rejected by Nike, proposed that adidas merge avant-garde design with sportswear. The first collection arrived in spring-summer 2003, and since then the brand has continued to reinterpret the German archive through a Japanese lens. The Nizza is a canvas court shoe that adidas launched in the 1970s, and this high-top version subjects it to a deconstruction exercise with cut-outs.
The high-top design wraps around the ankle and gives the model a much more vertical presence than the low-top version. On this foundation, Y-3 adds cut-outs to the side that reveal the lower layer in Off White, a purely aesthetic detail that breaks up the continuity of the black and turns a simple sneaker into a design piece.
