The original version, then called SMII, was developed around very specific requirements: it had to be lightweight and supportive without sacrificing flexibility, with a stitched upper for cushioning and reinforcement, a thin sole for balance and precision, and traction that preserved the barefoot feel. adidas was one of the first major brands to enter taekwondo after the sport took the world stage at the 1988 Seoul Games. The Black White Gum is its cleanest interpretation.
