There is a 1969 prototype in the adidas archive, and in 1970 the Superstar reached stores: the first low-top basketball shoe made from full-grain leather, protected by a ridged rubber toe cap at a time when almost all basketball was played in high-top canvas shoes. That shell toe moved from the court into street culture and has stayed there ever since. The Superstar II retains the original geometry and, in this kids' version, adds extra padding and an easy closure.
The serrated 3-Stripes, rubber toe cap, and herringbone-pattern cupsole remain. Here, the black base is offset by Glow Pink accents on the details and lining, adding color without sacrificing the practicality of a dark base.
