The adidas Jabbar was the first basketball shoe designed specifically for a player, launched in 1978 alongside Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the first athlete to sign with adidas and, for years, the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. It was also the first basketball model to feature a player’s face in its design. Wales Bonner now revisits that history in a capsule collection paying tribute to Abdul-Jabbar, presenting this Maroon Oat colorway.
The low-top version of the Jabbar, highly popular among b-boys in the 1980s, is presented here with a full suede upper and three stripes in alternating tones over embossed crocodile-effect leather. The Maroon Oat colorway takes the deep purple and white of the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, the two teams Kareem Abdul-Jabbar played for, finished with a gold foil “sky hook” design on the tongue.
