The Gazelle appeared in 1966 as one of adidas's first training shoes not designed for football: a low-profile suede silhouette, lightweight and flexible, created for use on indoor courts. The Indoor version is the one that preserves the essence of that original purpose, with a gum rubber sole for grip on parquet flooring. In the eighties and nineties, it ended up far from any gym: on British terraces and in the Britpop wardrobe.
The profile is instantly recognizable: low cut, one-piece suede vamp, three stitched stripes on the side, a slim tongue with the trefoil, and a heel tab bearing the model name.
