The Gazelle was relaunched in 1966 and was adidas's first athletic shoe to replace leather with suede: just as durable but lighter, with one decisive advantage—the dyeing process allowed for much brighter colors. That is precisely why it arrived on the market in two vibrant shades: a red version with a transparent herringbone sole for indoor sports and a blue version with microcellular rubber for training. Both featured kangaroo suede, side Three Stripes, a heel pull tab, and special arch support.
