The Samba was born in the early 1950s with a very specific problem to solve: allowing footballers to train on icy, hard surfaces without slipping. That is where its gum rubber sole and ultra-low profile come from. It was never a fashion sneaker by design, but by use: it went from the pitch to the stands, from the stands to indoor courts, and from there to the streets, where it has remained for decades. The Mule version removes the heel and turns it into an easy slip-on shoe.
It retains the original's signature features: T-toe, side Three Stripes and gum rubber sole. What changes is the upper construction, here made from woven fabric with a basketweave structure, a basket-style weave that adds texture and ventilation, along with the absence of a heel, allowing you to slip it on with a single step.
