Some collabs stop at a stamped logo, and others earn collectors' respect. The One Piece x Nike Air Max Plus SP “Mera Mera no Mi” belong to the second group: Nike didn't just recolor an existing TN, it redesigned the entire upper for the Devil Fruits collection. And this one, the fire pair, is the one the fewest people will be wearing in Europe.

The One Piece x Nike Air Max Plus SP “Mera Mera no Mi” is the orange model in Nike and One Piece's Devil Fruits collection, inspired by Portgas D. Ace's fire fruit. It debuts an upper with a TPU texture exclusive to the collab, visible Tuned Air cushioning in the heel and an initial release limited to Asia and Mexico starting September 12, 2026.

What is the One Piece x Nike Air Max Plus SP “Mera Mera no Mi” and why did it sell out so fast?

The Devil Fruits collection Nike and One Piece unveiled in August 2026 is three pairs: Gomu Gomu no Mi (Luffy), Ope Ope no Mi (Law) and this Mera Mera no Mi. Each fruit was treated as its own design project, not as three versions of the same shoe.

The fire pair dropped first: September 12, 2026, at select stores in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia and Mexico. The Gomu Gomu is the one that hit SNKRS in the US, Japan and several European countries on September 25; the orange pair never got that wide release. That's the real reason it's so scarce in Spain: it's not manufactured hype, it's distribution.

Design and colorway: why the Air Max Plus was the perfect silhouette for fire

Sean McDowell drew the Air Max Plus in 1998 from sketches made on Florida's beaches: the gradient mimics a melting sunset and the curves of the exoskeleton recreate palm trees in the wind. That DNA — a warm gradient and an organic structure — fits fire better than any other Nike silhouette.

Here the gradient runs from Brilliant Orange to Kumquat, Vibrant Yellow and Solar Flare, broken up by Healing Jade and Enamel Green on the exoskeleton. That green is the smartest call on the pair: without it, the orange would fall flat; with it, it burns. The tongue and laces come in contrast and carry Nike's take on the Jolly Roger, the detail that ties the pair to the One Piece universe without resorting to a literal print.

Materials and technology

  • Upper: construction with a TPU texture exclusive to the collab, with the exoskeleton in orange and yellow and a jade green counterpoint
  • Interior: padded textile lining, removable insole and reinforced collar, with the snug fit the TN is known for
  • Sole: Tuned Air cushioning with a visible heel unit and a rubber outsole with a traction pattern
  • Details: contrast tongue and laces with the collection's Jolly Roger

How do Nike Air Max Plus fit? Sizing guide before you buy

The number one question for anyone trying the TN for the first time. The Air Max Plus has a narrow, snug fit, and Nike itself recommends going half a size up from your usual. If you have wide feet or a high instep, that half size isn't optional.

The other point wearers keep bringing up: the pair is stiff out of the box. The exoskeleton needs a few days of wear to mold, and then the fit goes from "tight" to "locked in". That's normal for the model, not a flaw of this edition. Check the available sizes for Ace's pair before you decide.

How to style the One Piece x Nike Air Max Plus SP “Mera Mera no Mi”

Basic rule: if the shoes shout, the rest whispers. The orange calls for restraint up top, and a neutral palette is what best lets the gradient breathe.

  • Wide-leg black or charcoal gray denim with a plain sweatshirt: the safest look and the one that works best in photos
  • Sand beige cargo pants and a white tee to give the gradient center stage
  • Military jacket or olive green parka, picking up the Healing Jade of the exoskeleton: the combo the fewest people try and the one that works best
  • Black track pants with high white socks, the classic TN uniform since day one

What I'd avoid: red and burgundy up top. They compete with the orange and the outfit gets noisy. You can see more silhouettes in our Nike collection.

Frequently asked questions

When did the One Piece x Nike Air Max Plus SP “Mera Mera no Mi” release? +

They released on September 12, 2026 at select stores in Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia and Mexico, making them the first pair of the Devil Fruits collection to reach the public. The full collection continued its global rollout through September, including a SNKRS release on the 25th.

Do the Nike Air Max Plus “Mera Mera no Mi” run small? +

Yes, the Air Max Plus has a narrow, snug fit, and Nike recommends going half a size up from your usual. If you have wide feet or a high instep, that extra half size is practically a must to stay comfortable.

Also, the pair is stiff out of the box: the exoskeleton needs a few days of wear to mold to your foot.

How many models are in the One Piece x Nike Air Max Plus collection? +

The Devil Fruits collection has three pairs of Air Max Plus: Gomu Gomu no Mi (Luffy's fruit), Ope Ope no Mi (Trafalgar Law's) and Mera Mera no Mi (Ace's fire fruit). Each one debuts an exclusively redesigned upper, not a simple recolor.

The collection is rounded out with T-shirts, jerseys and caps inspired by the Nike archive.

What clothes do they go best with? +

They work best with streetwear pieces in neutral tones that let the gradient shine: black, charcoal gray or sand beige in wide-leg pants, with a plain sweatshirt or tee. The jade green of the exoskeleton also opens the door to finishing the look with a military or olive piece.

Can you buy them in Spain? +

Yes. Their official release was in Asia and Mexico, so they never reached Spanish retail, but at Next Step you can get them 100% new and authentic, with 14 calendar days for returns from delivery and fast shipping to Spain and all of Europe.
